Community board game night is now a regular event! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors out for some fun games, snacks, and drinks!
Every second Friday of the month in the Lower Hall.
Access the lower hall by the rear doors next to the skating rink under the deck.
Join us every Sunday from 10 AM – noon for a casual hang out with your neighbours in the green space behind the Banff Trail Community Centre!
Free coffee for adults and hot chocolate for kids (please bring a mug if you remember). Dress for the weather as this event happens rain or shine (or snow).
Join us for free public family ice skating every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the brand new Banff Trail Community Centre Outdoor Rink (at least until the ice melts, anyway). If you haven’t seen the rink yet, it’s on the corner of 20 Ave and 20 St NW, right behind the community centre.
There will be free coffee for the parents and hot chocolate for the kiddos (bring a mug, if you remember). Every Sunday will also be soundtracked with classic soul music by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, and The Temptations. Just a heads up that no hockey equipment will be allowed on the ice during the open skate.
It doesn’t matter whether you just turned 1 or 100 years old, grab a pair of skates and swing down this Sunday (and the one after that…) for this free public event (no community membership required). See you there!
This Is My Neighbourhood postcards have been mailed out! Look for yours, and help us make Banff Trail even better! They can be dropped off at Weeds, Higher Ground, or the Community Hall. Go to calgary.ca/MyNeighbourhood for more info.
The Banff Trail Community Association annual general meeting (AGM) is on Friday June 9th at the Banff Trail Community Hall at 7pm. We will be going over changes to the board of directors, discussing community issues, and voting on changes to the community association bylaws.
There will be free coffee donated by Higher Ground, munchies, and a chance to socialize after.
One of the critical functions of a community association is in stewardship of the community – to ensure the responsible management of Banff Trail’s unique resources and features. The association serves as a conduit to City Hall and other agencies as the voice for our residents, and we need to know what Banff Trail residents are thinking!
Over the past year, the association has engaged on all of the below topics. These are things affect you now and will in the future here in Banff Trail. If you care about any how any of these issues are handled you should attend the AGM.
- Development, Densification, and Zoning
- Renter’s and Landlord Rights
- “Good Neighbor Agreements” with Businesses and Entities
- Traffic Calming
- The New Ice Rink
- C-Train Station and Motel Village Re-development
- Crowchild Trail Development
- Modifications to the Association Bylaws
If you have any questions or would like to educate yourself about any of the above topics, please get in contact with the board.
Banff Trail has an envious record of being a tidy, progressive, safe area to live, rent a suite, raise a family, grow old, and develop friendships. To a large extent, this is due to residents’ commitment to “Community Building.” We have a remarkable demographic diversity, and the AGM is where you can make sure your ideas or concerns about any of these topics are known.
Lastly, we would all love the opportunity to meet you, and to build new friendships here in Banff Trail.
At our June 9th AGM (7pm at the hall), we will propose and vote on a bylaw change:
Change of 4.2.1 from “The Board of Directors shall convene an Annual General Meeting of the Membership on or before June 15 of each year.” to “… on or before September 30 of each year.”
This is to give the bookkeeping and account auditing process more time, as it’s quite tight to get it completed prior to June 15th, as well as to move the election of new board members to the fall when our meetings are more regular.
